Well we are one week out before we leave to Los Angeles. I am so excited to go and visit. LA is my second home. I miss it and all the friends I left behind. Amy & Phillip have been training harder each week.
If you are new to this blog you must understand that I feel God put us together. When you train someone as much as I train these guys, you learn alot about someone. I see why Bob Harper had a tough time saying goodbye to Amy P. when she was voted off. You build friendships and bond with these individuals. We tried to do a Full Body Cleanse on Amy and it back fired on us and she began to hold water after coming off a high protein diet. So what do you do? You remain calm and remind your client that what goes up (like your weight) must come down. After a week of trying to keep Amy calm and stress free we changed up her diet and we are rolling full steam ahead. Dropping about a pound a day. As far as Phillip he seems to be stress free and he can look at the treadmill like a typical man and drop weight.
This week workout will consist of hard interval training and weight training. They will be trying to sweat every ounce of water out so they can drop weight. They seem to have enough energy and this is when we need it the most. We fly to LA on Friday and we will be working out Saturday away from everyone else since I know some pretty hard core mountains to climb. The weigh in, is on Sunday the 14th. This is where all of are time and energy will pay off. Don't forget to stay tune for Dec. 16th at 8pm on NBC for the Live Finale.
I would like to thank all of you for your support! We appreciate every one of you!
We believe in you, we hope you will do the same!

Amy&Phillip met DJ
Dear Readers,
Many of you ask how we created this friendship. In may I was training at my personal gym (Carolina Fitness Center) here in Greenville, SC when one of my clients comes in for her session and says, I know two people from Greenville that were selected to the Biggest Loser Show. I replied, you have to be kidding me, please tell me you are joking. She said they left around May 12th. She said if I hear anything I will call you. My client is in charge of their advertising. A couple of months go by and I get a call from my friend telling my they are off the ranch. Im am about to come unglued, I want to meet them, I explained. She said she will work on it.
You must understand, I am a trainer who lived in LA. I am not too impressed with many people from TV. I was on 90210 and Party of Five as a extra. I did a 5k with Oprah and with my business in LA I have been in so many peoples home from TV series and Bands it's like another day.
These guys are now, on one of my favorite shows and I love my job and helping people change their lifes. I am in between training and I get the phone call that changed my life, my friend Kat calls me and says, I ran into the Biggest Loser at my gym. I said, did you meet them? She said her name is Amy and she takes the same Body Combat class that I take everyday. Kat then says, would you mind if I invited them to your BootCamp class. I said you get them here so I can meet them I will comp your class. Kat says, see you on Friday when they get there. I laughed and said yeah, yeah, I hear these stories everyday.
I am getting ready for class August 2nd 2008 and I look up as Kat brings them in the door. She brings them over and as soon as she introduced me, I felt a bond instantly. I turned the heat up a little, that Friday morning because I wanted them to know that I train hard and I am standing in front of two people that are on one the most watched TV shows.
I was so excited that I canceled my next appointment, so I could hangout with them. As we met after class, I'll never forget what Amy told me, (we feel like we were sent here), like a prayer was answered. They both were full of energy and I have to admit, just good ole southern people. They left and I prayed that they would come back and you know what? They did!
We planned a meeting on how we were going to reach our goals and how we would workout and when BootCamp started and when I could train. I have to say, they are about as dedicated as anyone that I have ever met. They know what it takes and they get it done.
I like to make the workouts hard but different. I first workout was to a place called Parrish Mtn. with 20lb weighted vests. It took us a hour and a half in the mountains after Phillip decided to get sick on us. Lets say he wasn't feeling good that day.
Our workouts consist of 6 days of cardio and 3 days of weight training. I require that they get 3 hours a day in the gym so we can keep the body like a furnace and burn all day. Amy enjoys Boot Camp and Personal Training and Phillip enjoys hard workouts and cardio mix. If I could choose any two off the ranch, I have to say that God had his hand in this one without a doubt. 5 more weeks till we fly to LA, so we need all the support we can get.
Much Love! DJ

Day of a Trainer
Dear BLT-(Biggest Loser Team),
I had 12 clients today and after 12 hours on your feet it can be brutal but always rewarding. As we all go to the gym to make this transformation for life, we carry many years of baggage as well. I listen to everything from, if my husband would just come home and watch the screaming kids for one hour and see what it is like in the eyes of a mother, or I use to be a gymnast and I was a size 2 and I can't believe I weigh 220.
Life can be rough but that's why you hire a trainer, someone you can trust, a sounding board, someone that is compassionate, one that will listen but also that trainer who can be creative and make the workout fun.
I have been into fitness for 13 years and everyday is new. I have to be honest, today was very emotional for me. Let me tell you why. After my last client walked in and showed me her food journal and I sat down with her to talk about why she makes the crazy food choices that continue to make the scale go off the chart, we will call her Lizzy to be safe. Lizzy has struggled all her life with a eating disorder.
You see her parents went through a divorce years ago and she has used food as a comfort food. When it time to make a good choice she will bounce the idea back and forth until she justifies her choice. It's easy to do because she has programmed herself to have that stinkin-thinkin as Zig Ziglar use to say. Lizzy has struggled for months and doesn't want her family members to tell her what she can or can't eat. She will tell me at least I am working out even though I haven't lost any weight.
As we were on the floor getting ready to start a set of ab workout, I said Lizzy, I believe there is something about you that I can't grasp my hands on. You workout harder then anyone I know. I understand that you struggle with your food but I believe in you and I will always be here to help you when you are ready to help yourself. As I looked into her eyes and felt a warm connection, as tears ran down her face, I clutched her hand and said you can do this. You see, thats the connection and love you must have being a trainer. You need to make the connection. As we went back to working out, I fought back the tears as I broke down a wall of fear tonight. As Lizzy came over to tell me good bye we embraced and I said, you can do this, see you later!
I am now in my car and giving a silent prayer to God for blessing me with the ability to help someone change their today, as tears streamed down my face knowing that Lizzy blessed my life as well.
I hope you will all make the connection, whether it be with your trainer, a family member or with God, do it for yourself because I believe in you!

Hello to all biggest loser fans!!
Hi everyone!!
I wanted to write a note to encourage all of you who are out there fighting the weight loss battle. I know the mental hamster wheel that you can get yourself on.. The diets, the failure, beating yourself up so you end up eating because you are depressed. It is a vicious cycle...
I also want you to know that it is not an impossible cycle to break as I learned on the biggest loser ranch.
Here are some key things that I learned that may help you...
1) Eat every 4 hours!!!!!
Keep your metabolism burning!! It is like a fire in the fireplace. Keep stoking it with good food.
2) Get rid of the processed and "empty calorie" foods.
These foods like processed snacks, high sugar desserts, and things with high fructose corn syrup will actually make you more hungry!! Stay away from them and keep cravings at bay.
3) Exercise!!!
You don't have to exercise 5 hours a day but you do have to exercise!!!! Get out there and move until you feel your heart rate go up. If you are feeling challenged then that is a good thing because you are burning fat. Keep that in your mind for motivation..
There are many other tips that I want to share and will in the following weeks.. Keep looking and send questions to biggestloserteam@gmail.com
Thanks!!
